Guess the boats competition winner

Northfleet Harbour Restoration Trust put on a stall at the recent Northfleet Big Local Christmas Market part of that display was a just for fun free competition to guess the number of boats that could use the harbour whether in the water, stacked in dry storage, being stored in boat yards, repaired or restored.

We also had our vision for the future on display and our history boards showing how the harbour has been in use since the Roman times.

Mike Charman one of our Trustees who was hosting the event had devised a portable bit of harbour beach  to give the youngsters a taste of archaeology with a metal detector and the chance to find a number of metal finds in the sand, from coins to musket balls (ok cement clinker grinding balls)

The Grand Prize of this free draw goes to Lesley Foreman who guessed 350 boats in and out of the water, our actual estimate was 407 so the guess was a little out but still the closest.

We did have guestimates ranging from just 54 up to 933, the majority of guesses were around the 250 mark which was encouraging as it shows that the message about the sze of the harbour is getting out there.

Cheque is in the post....
